How To Apply for the Position

Variety

Here at CSED, a variety of positions are available, giving entry level to experienced candidates a full range of opportunities.  Most entry level positions do not require a degree.

Full training is provided.  We provide continuous education and training throughout your time with us for changes to the federal and state code, as well as ongoing upgrades to the technology we use.

Advancement opportunities.  Promotion comes with experience and we have several positions you can step into as you gain agency knowledge or complete additional college credits.  Here at CSED, on the job training is valued.

Learn to:  Interpret Alaska Statute, Alaska Administrative Code, the Code of Federal Regulations, Locate Individuals, Establish Paternity, Create an Order of Child Support, Enforce Orders, Suspend Licenses, Sweep Bank Accounts, Investigation Cases, Resolve Conflicts, Help out Clients or open the door to learning State of Alaska systems and programming skills.

Step 1: Search for the position.  Here are some common position titles:

  • Office Assistant 2.
  • Child Support Specialist.
  • Accounting Technician.
  • Systems Programmer.
  • Analyst Programmer.

Step 2: Create or update your Workplace Alaska profile to identify any experience that matches the requirements of the Minimum Qualifications from the recruitment.

  • Use keywords from the minimum qualifications in the Duties Summary of your profile to describe your responsibilities in that position.
  • Update your start and end dates for employers.
  • Verify you have current contact information for past employers.
  • Verify you meet the minimum qualifications by counting the months or years you were in the qualifying positions.
  • Complete the education portion of your profile through high school at a minimum.

Step 3: Review the recruitment for any additional information you will be required to provide and gather the information to include and attach to your application.

  • Is a typing test required?
  • Is a cover letter required?
  • Are you using college credits to meet minimum qualifications?  Do  you need to provide college transcripts?
  • Are performance evaluations or a written statement why you don't have evaluations requested?
  • Are you required to provide letters of professional reference?

Applying

  • Do a final review of your Workplace Alaska profile to ensure your information is up to date.
  • Have all required documents saved and ready to upload when you apply.
  • Apply for the position and attach all required documents at the time of application.

Common Mistakes

  • Forgetting to attach a cover letter when the recruitment calls for one.
  • Ensure the cover letter includes the required elements or answers questions requested in your cover letter.
  • Not attaching a copy of transcripts when using college credits to meet minimum qualifications.
  • Not providing a typing test that meets the minimum standards when applying or at the time of the interview.
  • Submitting your full work history in the Workplace Alaska profile.
