➲ Phone scammers posing as CSED employees - threatening to take to jail without payment
Alaska CSED has recently taken reports from clients who received scam phone calls from people posing as CSED employees. The scammer tells the client that if they do not make an immediate payment of $10,000 on their case, they will be taken to jail. The scammer then asks for a same-day payment over the phone with various methods of payment. CSED is not set up to take phone payments at this time.
- At no time will a CSED employee threaten a client with jail without immediate payment or direct a client to make a same-day payment with threat of immediate incarceration.
- For a same-day payment, CSED representatives will direct clients to visit CSED’s website for payment options: See: Payment Information
- CSED will never call you about payments during non-business hours (evenings, most weekends, and holidays).
- If a CSED rep is legitimately calling you, they will verify your identity.
- Clients should be aware of scams and are asked to contact their caseworker with related questions: Contact Us
- If you have fallen victim to this scam and suffered a financial loss, file a report with the Anchorage Police Department online at www.anchoragepolice.com/file-a-police-report.
Scammers can sometimes change their phone caller ID to appear as a local number. If you believe the person you are speaking with is not a CSED representative, hang up, and call 907-269-6900.
